Whitbred assumes command of NRMW RCC

Capt. George N. T. Whitbred IV relieved Capt. Gary J. Haben as Commander, Navy Region Midwest, Reserve Component Command (NRMW RCC) in a change-of command ceremony on July 20. The ceremony was held in the NRMW RCC conference room with all hands in attendance.
    Whitbred served as the operations officer at Navy Reserve Forces Command from July 2010 to July 2012 prior to reporting to NRMWRCC.
    His other duty stations include commanding officer of EOD Mobile Unit SEVENTEEN, NAS Whidbey Island, Wash. Upon completion he assumed command of Navy Operational  Support Center, Quincy, Mass. Whitbred served on the staff of U. S. Fleet Forces Command and U. S. Atlantic Fleet, Norfolk, Va., as the N3 Maritime Homeland Defense Special Operations Forces staff officer, USNORTHCOM Maritime Component, 2003-2005. 
    In August 2006, he assumed command of Naval Magazine Indian Island, Port Hadlock, Wash., the Navy’s second largest west coast ammunition facility. 
    Upon completion of his command tour, Whitbred reported to U. S. Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, Va. as the operational support officer.
    Whitbred is a 2006 graduate of the Air War College, earning a masters of arts degree in strategic studies.
