For the 82nd year in a row, the Lake County Fair Association is hosting the annual Lake County Fair – a six-day event full of agricultural showings, live entertainment and a friendly atmosphere that draws people of all ages.

LAKE VILLA – Nearly 1,000 people gathered at Township Park in Lake Villa on July 24 for the annual Antioch/Lakes-area Relay for Life fundraiser. Those 1,000 people raised at least $90,000 for the American Cancer Society.

WHEELING- Enjoy 18 holes of championship golf, dinner, raffles and a silent auction Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Chevy Chase Country Club, located at 1000 N. Milwaukee Ave in Wheeling. Registration and check-in begins at 11 a.m. with the participants teeing off at noon. The cost per person is $95 for the golf outing, cart and dinner; and $35 just for dinner. CHICAGO – “A Parallelogram,” a disarming new play by Bruce Norris debuting at Steppenwolf Theatre, conceives of a parallel universe to ours, one not only existing on a different plane but also years into the future.

Matt Charlier isn’t a veteran, but that hasn’t stopped him from supporting troops in a big way. Charlier is the northern Illinois state coordinator for Warriors’ Watch, a motorcycle group that honors soldiers with parade-style events. The group does everything from homecomings to send-offs to mug-and-hugs. Charlier recently chatted with reporter Crystal Lindell about the organization, the reactions he gets from those in uniform, and treating troops like rock stars.

ANTIOCH – Railroad crossings on North Avenue and Route 83 in Antioch will close for repairs beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, July 22. The crossings are expected to reopen at 5 p.m. Monday, July 26.
