MUNDELEIN- Carried along by his putting and short game, Mundelein native Tommy Schofield finished in the top five at the Midwest Junior Players Championship. The event took place at Pine Meadow Golf Club in Mundelein. Schofield finished the competition shooting 218 on a par-72 course.

WHEELING- Enjoy 18 holes of championship golf, dinner, raffles and a silent auction Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Chevy Chase Country Club, located at 1000 N. Milwaukee Ave in Wheeling. MUNDELEIN- The Lake County Lightning travel baseball team will hold tryouts at Carmel Catholic High School, 1 Carmel Way in Mundelein, on Saturday, Aug. 14, and Saturday, Aug. 28. Tryout times are 10 a.m. to noon for 14 year olds; 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. for 13 year olds; and 3 to 5 p.m. for 12 year olds. Players should arrive 15 to 25 minutes early, and those with questions should call 847-867-6240.

CHICAGO – “A Parallelogram,” a disarming new play by Bruce Norris debuting at Steppenwolf Theatre, conceives of a parallel universe to ours, one not only existing on a different plane but also years into the future.
Matt Charlier isn’t a veteran, but that hasn’t stopped him from supporting troops in a big way. Charlier is the northern Illinois state coordinator for Warriors’ Watch, a motorcycle group that honors soldiers with parade-style events. The group does everything from homecomings to send-offs to mug-and-hugs. Charlier recently chatted with reporter Crystal Lindell about the organization, the reactions he gets from those in uniform, and treating troops like rock stars.

A bat found in a home June 27 in Third Lake has tested positive for rabies. This is the sixth bat that tested positive for rabies in Lake County this year, Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center officials said.
